ELKA, an electrical engineering company and cable factory, was founded in 1927 in Zagreb. Since then, the company has continuously expanded its product range and technological capacities, becoming the leading cable manufacturer in the region.
Latest investments and projects
Intensive investments in new machines and technologies, including machines for copper processing, making cable sheaths and shielding of insulated wires. Projects for the construction of a new finished goods warehouse (2024) and the installation of a solar power plant on the renovated roofs of the production halls (2024) have also been launched.
Recent history
Development of medium-voltage cables for direct laying in the ground (2019), achievement of functionality preservation tests in a fire (2019), and takeover by Iskra Group (2021).
Focus on the production of high-tech cables, such as self-regulating heating cables (2012), certification of marine halogen-free heavy-fuel cables (2015), and medium-voltage and high-voltage cables (2017).
At the beginning of the 21st century:
Production of advanced telecommunications and energy cables, including cables for ADSL and VDSL technologies (2004), and certification of medium voltage and high voltage cables in the VDE and Kema institutes (2010).
Middle and end of the 20th century
Certification of the quality management system according to ISO 9001 (1997).
Production of fiber optic cables (1988) and own crosslinking polyethylene (1985).
Early development and innovation
Production of the first 10 kV energy cable with an aluminum conductor and PVC insulation (1966) and the beginning of the production of microcables and special cables (1972). Introduction of production of low-voltage and medium-voltage cables insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (1977).
Introduction of aluminum for power cable conductors (1940) and production of low-voltage lines and cables insulated with thermoplastic materials (1951).
