High voltage cables with XLPE insulation are more and more applied in the world and in the country, especially for power transmission in densely populated areas. For that, there are numerous reasons, such as:
cables with XLPE insulation are ecologically acceptable
the width of the cable route is narrow and invisible, so that ground can be used for other purposes too
there is no harmful impact of magnetic and electrical field as at power-transmission lines
cable systems are much safer for people (for assembly workers and public in case of accidents)
power supply via cable systems are more reliable, and they are less exposed to various damages
their maintenance is cheaper
cable systems have smaller transmission losses
High voltage cables with XLPE insulation are produced applying the most recent insulation technology in triple sprouting under simultaneous depositing of insulating and semi-conductive layers within the same head (triple extrusion). In the process are used special materials of exquisite purity, which are handled in a specially clean atmosphere.
In the production is paid special attention to the fact that the cable core should not get in contact with water, i.e., that the insulation remains dry during the entire production process. It means that the expected lifetime of such cables is very long. To achieve that, ELKA applies a special dry method of cross-linking and insulation cooling (CDCC method – Completely Dry Curing and Cooling method). For that purpose is used inert nitrogen gas.
